Our delightful 16 Nights/ 17 Days tour in the western coast of Sri Lanka gives you the chance to witness the majestic beauty of the island’s celebrated attractions. You will be starting your journey from the rapidly developing city of Kalpitiya where a range of thrilling water sports is offered. You will then travel to the Cultural Triangle and visit famed attractions like Sigiriya Rock Fortress, Anuradhapura ancient city, Polonnaruwa ancient city, Aukana Buddha statue and Mihintale. The enchanting village of Elkaduwa and the picturesque town of Ella will also be covered during your tour. Safari tours in Minneriya National Park and Yala National Park will also add exhilaration to your experience in the island. The majestic coastal city of Galle will be covered extensively during this tour. You will get the chance to visit Galle Fort as well as the Turtle Hatchery during your stay in the city.
A representative of Tangerine Tours will meet you when you arrive at the Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake. After the initial meet and greet, we will be taking you to the famed city of Kalpitiya, which is a rapidly developing tourist attraction. The journey will take approximately three hours. Once you reach Kalpitiya you can check-in to the hotel and unpack your bags. You can travel in the region if you desire or spend the rest of the day relaxing at the resort.
Day 2 - Kalpitiya
Start the day early with a hearty breakfast at the hotel. Today we will be visiting the Wilpattu National Park which is the largest national park in the island in the morning hours. After your exciting safari tour you can return to your hotel in Kalpitiya and relax for a while. The rest of the day can be spent enjoying the many types of water sports the region offers. Many say that Kalpitiya is the best place in the island to enjoy kite surfing!
Day 3 - Sigiriya
Transfer from Kalpitiya to Sigiriya
You will be travelling from Kalpitiya to Sigiriya today. The journey will take around 3.5 hours, so you will have to start early. Once you reach Sigiriya, you can check-in to the hotel and then proceed towards the famed city of Anuradhapura, which was the very first capital of ancient Sri Lankan kings. Prominent attractions in the city such as Aukana Buddha Statue, Mihintale and the sacred city will be explored extensively during the day. Return to the hotel to rest when evening comes.
Day 4 - Sigiriya
You will visit the Sigiriya Rock Fortress today so prepare for a day of adventure! Have a good breakfast at the hotel and wear comfortable shoes and clothes as the climb is quite challenging in certain areas. This majestic rock fortress was built by King Kasyapa who ruled in the island between 477- 495 CE. There are many gardens, frescoes as well as a beautiful Mirror Wall to admire here. Return to the hotel after the tour and spend the rest of the day at leisure.
Day 5 - Sigiriya
This is the third and final day that will be spent in the Cultural Triangle of the country. You can prepare to explore the region after breakfast at the hotel. Today you will be visiting the famous ruins of Polonnaruwa, which was the second kingdom of ancient Sri Lankan kings. There are spectacular ruins to admire here which have been very well preserved. A safari tour in the Minneriya National Park will also be included in your itinerary of the day.
Day 6 - Elkaduwa
Transfer from Sigiriya to Elkaduwa
The picturesque village of Elkaduwa will be your next stop in your journey in the paradise island of Sri Lanka. The journey from Sigiriya to Elkaduwa will take around two hours. On the way we will also stop at Dambulla Cave Temple, which is also known as the Golden Temple of Dambulla. This is a UNESCO World Heritage Site which has a remarkable array of Buddha statues. Once you reach the hotel in Elkaduwa you can spend the rest of the day at leisure.
Day 7 - Elkaduwa
The full day will be spent in the idyllic village of Elkaduwa today. You can start with an early breakfast and prepare to embark on an exciting exploratory tour. We will be arranging a series of treks and nature walks in the beautiful environs of Elkaduwa so be sure to wear comfortable shoes and clothes. Take your camera with you as you will come across many picturesque sites! Return to the hotel when evening comes and enjoy a time of rest and repose.
Day 8 - Kandy
Transfer from Elkaduwa to Kandy
The city of Kandy will be explored today. So, start the day early with a good breakfast and check-out of your hotel in the morning. The journey from Elkaduwa to Kandy will take only an hour. Once you reach the city, you will be taken to the world famous Temple of the Tooth Relic, where a relic of a tooth of Buddha is enshrined. It is an important pilgrimage site in the country. A colourful traditional dance performance will complete your day in the city.
Day 9 - Nuwara Eliya
Transfer from Kandy to Nuwara Eliya
You will be travelling to the city of Nuwara Eliya today. Have an early breakfast and prepare to enjoy a scenic journey through rolling hills to reach this magnificent city. Once you reach the hotel you can unpack your bags and set off to explore the charms of the region. There will be tea factory and tea plantation tours arranged for you today. We will also take you around the beautiful city to give you a chance to fall in love with its mesmerizing beauty!
Day 10 - Nuwara Eliya
Explore Nuwara Eliya
The iconic Horton Plains National Park will be visited today. You will be on your feet for the greater part of the day so be sure to wear comfortable shoes and clothes. Beautiful sceneries are quite common in the region so bring your camera along as well! We will also visit the Lover’s Leap waterfalls today. After your day of exploration, you can return to the hotel to rest and relax.
Day 11 - Belihuloya
Transfer from Nuwara Eliya to Belihuloya
The beautiful village of Belihuloya will be explored next. Today you will get the chance to enjoy one of the most beautiful train journeys in the world too! The scenic train ride from Nanuoya to Ella will indeed enchant you! Once you reach Ella, you will be able to explore the stunning territories of Little Adam’s Peak too. You will then be on the way to your hotel in Belihuloya where you will rest and relax during the night.
Day 12 - Belihuloya
A delightful day of exploration is planned for you today so have a great breakfast at the hotel! We will be visiting Pahanthudawa today and enjoy a trek in the Rabbit Rock too. A village trek will also be included in the tour itinerary of the day. You will get the chance to have a refreshing dip in a natural swimming pool during the day. It certainly will be an unforgettable experience! Return to the hotel when night falls to enjoy some much needed rest.
Day 13 - Yala
Transfer from Belihuloya to Yala
You will be leaving to Yala today from Belihuloya. The journey will take you around three hours. On the way we will stop at Buduruwagala Temple, which has six beautiful statues of Buddha. Once you reach the hotel in Yala, spend the day at leisure. You will be enjoying an action packed day tomorrow at the world famous Yala National Park so do make this an opportunity to replenish your energy!
Day 14 - Yala
Start your day early with a good breakfast at the hotel and then travel to the iconic Yala National Park. This is the second largest and the most popular national park in the island. The fact that the park has the highest leopard densities in the world certainly heightens its appeal! You will most likely get the chance to spot these apex predators prowling in their natural habitats during a safari tour. Elephants and sloth bears are also commonly spotted in Yala.
Day 15 - Galle
Transfer from Yala to Galle
The coastal city of Galle which is one of the most picturesque destinations in the island will be your next stop. The city will be reached approximately 1.5 hours via the Southern Expressway. Once you reach Galle, check-in to the hotel and spend some time relaxing. You will get the chance to visit Galle Fort today which is a majestic fort built by the Portuguese back in the year 1588. You will also witness many stilt fishermen as you travel around the region.
Day 16 - Galle
The full day will be spent in Galle today, so have a leisurely breakfast and prepare for a epic journey of exploration. You will get the opportunity to embark on a whale and dolphin watching tour today which is indeed one of the most popular activities among those who travel in the city. You can spend the rest of the day idling upon the golden shores of Galle, drinking in its absolute loveliness. Return to your hotel at night and enjoy a hearty meal.
Day 17 - Bandaranaike International Airport
Transfer from Galle to Bandaranaike International Airport
You will be travelling back home today after your delightful tour in the island. So, pack your bags and be ready to leave. A representative of Tangerine Tours will come and pick you from your hotel in Galle when it is time for your flight back home. We will then bid you adieu until we meet again!
