Insurance Brokering, Deposit Mobilization, Apartment Leasing
as well as Importing and Selling of brand new and
re-conditioned vehicles.
Mercantile Investments
group has diversified into tourism in a big way during the
last 35 years. They built and started operations of the two
star Nilaveli Beach Hotel in the East Coast in 1972. This
86-roomed hotel is situated in one of the best beaches in
the world, and has got all the facilities required by
holidaymakers.
With the experience and the
success in the East Coast, they ventured into Tangerine
Beach Hotel in Kalutara on the south coast. This 167-roomed
four-star luxury hotel which opened in 1983 is also equipped
with a modern Conference and Banquet Hall of international
standards.
Going from success to
success they made a change in their path from coastal line
hotels to the cool misty hill country by taking over the
management of Grand Hotel - Nuwara Eliya which is more than
a century old. This 156-roomed hotel has the reputation of
once being the residence of a former British Governor - Sir
Edward Barnes and was called “Barnes hall” during that
period. Grand Hotel is now equipped with a Deluxe Golf Wing
that is built mainly to serve the Golfers who patronize the
adjoining famous golf course.
Responding to a
Government call to upgrade the tourism industry in Sri Lanka they
also launched a five star 124 roomed resort on a land adjacent to
Tangerine Beach Hotel. This resort which is named as Royal Palms
Beach Hotel was commissioned in winter 1996.
